Break down barriers: State urged to
lift restrictions on nJune 1, 2011

WISE  Of the nearly 1,500 volunteers at this year's Remote Area Medical outreach, about a dozen were nurse practitioners.

More wanted to contribute to the huge free clinic, but restrictions in Virginia law make it complicated and difficult, says Teresa Gardner, executive director of The Health Wagon and herself a nurse practitioner.

"We need our hands unchained," Gardner says, echoing the state association's position for lifting restrictions on their practice.
